Watarrka National Park is 330km
south west of Alice Springs and contains the awe inspiring Kings Canyon. A
6km walk up to and around the rim of the canyon takes you past the strange
rock formations known as the 'Lost City'. Perch yourself on a rock and peer
into the depths of the Canyon 300m below. Or stare out into the distant desert
country. Then swim in the oasis-like palm-fringed pool called the 'Garden
of Eden'. Accommodation and camping facilities are available at a nearby resort.
There are many tours from Alice Springs that take in both Kings Canyon and
Uluru. If you are travelling independently a sealed road turns off the Stuart
Highway 77km south of Alice Springs, or alternatively the unsealed Mereenie
Loop Road connects with the sealed Larapinta Drive in the West McDonnell Ranges.
